What’s CROP Hunger Walk?

Walks are ecumenical, interfaith community events that support the worldwide program of Church World Service (CWS). Since CROP Hunger Walk started in 1968, CWS uses the funds raised to support self-help development, meet emergency needs, and help address the root causes of poverty and powerlessness.

Congregations can choose from two sites to participate at:

  • Ottawa Park Shelter for congregations west of the Maumee River
  • Pearson Park Tennis Court Shelter for congregations east of the river.

Does CROP Hunger Walk help those in need in my community too?

One-fourth of the money raised through the CROP Hunger Walks stays in Toledo and goes to the FEED YOUR NEIGHBOR program of Toledo Area Ministries.

Is CROP Hunger Walk a national event?

You bet! Approximately 2,000 communities in the United States will hold a CROP Hunger Walk this year. In past years over 25 Toledo area congregations have participated in this fun event.

What Happens at a CROP Hunger Walk?

Lots of things: first we gather at a shelter house for a few words and a short devotion. We will be sent on our way by special praise music from some of our Toledo area congregations. At the end of the approximately 3-mile walk we will have fruit for you to enjoy. Come and meet some interesting people who, like you, want to help in this important work.

How Can I Participate?

Your minister has identified a Recruiter for your congregation who will help you get started. The Recruiter will have information available by the end of August. Many congregations make the event part of the confirmation classes’ service project. Others bring friends – and sometimes their pets!

How Can I Learn More?
