The Ohio Benefit Bank

The Benefit Bank® (TBB™) connects communities to resources by providing a practical technological solution to the complex and cumbersome process by which low income households gain access to tax credits and public benefit programs. Developed for use by a wide range of community based, faith-based, governmental, job-training, healthcare or social service agencies, TBB can be part of a community-wide response to poverty. TBB not only provides the opportunity to help neighbors but also provides information for organizations to more effectively advocate for policies that better serve their communities.

The Benefit Bank is a tool to help individuals and families overcome poverty. However, it is also a program that can help states, local governments or communities develop and implement a targeted economic development program that focuses available, and mainly Federal, resources to aid low and moderate income communities. TBB serves as a platform for reshaping how we think about, talk about and address the issue poverty and its solutions.

Billions of dollars in public funds go untouched each year because applying for state and federal benefits such as Food Stamps or Medicaid is confusing, intimidating, time consuming, or embarrassing. Additional billions in tax credits are also left unclaimed due to lack of knowledge. The Benefit Bank removes these obstacles - bringing people closer to stability and closer to self-sufficiency.

The Benefit Bank is the only system available that can process federal tax returns and state tax returns as well as a range of federal and public sponsored health and social service benefits.
