House My People

House My People has a rich history of programs, spanning anywhere from monetary assistance to actual help in placing eligible applicants in mobile homes. Our ministry works with the low-income of the community giving them the support they need to find and stay in their homes. Referral for this program is the same as any referral for assistance through the Clearinghouse, must be a referral received from a local church or Clearinghouse partnering agency.

Our current project is through a Toledo Community Foundation Safety Net Grant. It allows us to give monies to provide a family in danger of eviction or foreclosure with a once in a lifetime grant of up to $400. In order to qualify for these monies an intake must be completed through the Clearinghouse and meet the guidelines set for this grant. A person must meet these guidelines to potentially qualify for this grant:

  1. Have enough monthly income (cash) to cover their monthly expenses.
  2. Have an eviction notice from the landlord or a notice of arrearage from the mortgage holder (the eviction does not have to be one with a court date it can be just a 3 day notice).

Once it is determined that a family meets those guidelines a face to face interview will be held with the Clearinghouse Coordinator/Director.  At this face-to-face interview the following documents must be supplied:

  1. Verification of ALL sources of income in the household (including but not limited to pay stubs for the 30 days prior to the interview; documentation of ADC/TANF/OWF or any other source from Jobs and Family Services such as SSI, etc.).
  2. A copy of the eviction notice or notice of arrears from the mortgage holder;
  3. Photo ID for all adult household members (defined as anyone over the age of 18).

Once the face to face interview is complete the family will leave that interview with a declaration as to whether or not they met all guidelines for the grant and if they were approved for these monies.  This letter will also serve as the promissory note for the landlord and will include all follow up procedures needed to access the monies.  This promissory note is only good for 30 days from the date of issue and if the family is not able to pay their portion within that 30 days they will need to complete another face to face interview with current documentation again to make sure nothing has changed since initial contact and promise.
