There are many ways to get involved in a leadership role with TAM. We offer a wide variety of partnerships and task forces to assist the Greater Toledo Area. Some of these include:
- Lucas County Hunger Task Force which works to find viable solutions to the hunger crisis. They meet monthly to discuss events in the community and plan projects to alleviate hunger.
- Erase the Hate Toledo which seeks to celebrate diversity in all its various forms. This is accomplished through the planning and promoting of events around Toledo which highlight different cultures, religions and ethnicities and fosters a greater respect and understanding of those differences.
- The Multifaith Council of Northwest Ohio which seeks to draw together diverse faiths, in mutual respect, cooperation, friendship and service.
- Jobs With Justice which advocates for the rights of workers everywhere, bringing to light several issues including healthcare reform and fair treatment of all people in the workplace.
All of these task forces and organizations are dependent upon volunteers to help organize events and spread their message. Check out their websites or contact TAM for more information.
Be on an Advisory Board
Another great way to get involved in a leadership role at TAM is to join the advisory board of your favorite ministry. This can be any one of our nine core ministries (Feed Your Neighbor, TAM Clearinghouse, Second Chance, Food Stamp Outreach, Suitably Attired, Managed Care Advocacy, Toledo Urban Missions, Coalition for Quality Education, and House My People).
Young Adult and Youth Programs
If you would like to be more directly involved in TAM and its leadership, please consider joining one of our newly founded youth and young adult programs (ages17-35):
- The Young Leaders Council is a one year commitment which offers a year of training for ministry/non-profit leadership, monthly preparation classes and weekend training opportunities, placement at a local Toledo advisory/governing board or task force, and follow-up small group processing of tools learned during placement experiences. It’s a great way to learn more about the non-profit world and get some actual hands on experience as well! It’s also great for future networking opportunities in the Toledo area.
- The Servant Leadership Team is a group dedicated to “the active participation and development of direct service opportunities for the betterment of society and a more holistic view of the self in society.” It’s a hands-on experience with the community, and has no minimum time limit for participation.
Join Our Board!
If you’re still looking for something bigger to be involved in, consider becoming a Toledo Area Ministries Board member. Board members meet monthly and are also involved in separate sub-committees to help with event planning, financial analysis and more. This is a chance to become a part of the core team of TAM, and assist in all of the various interworkings of our organization.
For more information or to join any of these groups, contact TAM at tam@tamohio.org.
