Who Are We?

Toledo Area Ministries (TAM) is the largest ecumenical organization in NW Ohio supported in various ways by 125 member congregations and 6 denominations. We are also the oldest ecumenical organization in NW Ohio being in continuous existence since 1886 under one name or another (Metro Toledo Church United, Toledo Area Council of Churches, Toledo Metropolitan Mission). The organization has had to reinvent itself numerous times in order to keep pace with what God is doing in society and the Church. Today we can be defined in the following four ways:

TAM is a network of congregations in the greater Toledo area that come together as collaborating partners in order to be more effective at meeting human need, creating community and working for justice.

  • TAM is a group of ministries and programs (as identified on the web site) that actually meet human need, create community and work for justice.
  • TAM emphasizes assisting congregations and church leaders to meet human need, create community and work for justice. This is done through:
  • Being a healing agent in the community to bring diverse people and congregations together who would not usually collaborate with one another.
  • Serving congregations and church leaders through such things as resources, communication and leadership development.
  • Being incubators of new ministries that will assist congregations and church leaders to be more effective at meeting human need, creating community and working for justice.
  • Taking leadership in bringing the faith community together to “Transform Toledo” as we engage in community development.
  • Being peacemakers that stand up for the beloved of God and in doing so we teach others to do the same.
  • Finally, TAM is people discovering how to help people in the most effective way… TOGETHER!
